The increase of the living standards in China prompt the people's material and spiritual life. In order to comply with the demand of the society development, the importance of the design education rises. Meanwhile, mastering with the rudimentary knowledge of the design and having the design understanding ability is one of the most essential standards in the development of spiritual civilization, and the design study has become one of the necessary parts in our lives. As for the elementary education in China, design formative education is a novel field:its concept for systematic teaching has still not been formed, and the education is still containing in the art education. Moreover, the lack of the talented persons in the design field and most people's consciousness of the design in China is due to the lack of the understanding to the importance of the design study. In this context, it is of great significance to focus on the research in the elementary design education of teenagers.The study was from the point of view in the design study and basing on the design specialty to reveal the key factor of the design in the elementary education via the methods of the questionnaire and the teaching practice. Three aspects were investigated in the study:1) creative thinking,2) design skill and 3) aesthetic taste in the training of teenagers. By means of the questionnaire and the teaching practice, the results demonstrated that the training of the creative thinking should be based on the observation training, breaking rules and divergent thinking training, while the training of the design skill should be based on the combination by using hands and minds, developing the styles and the teamwork, and the training of the aesthetic taste should be based on the training of findings and understanding, developing the traditional style and fostering the individuality, respectively. The research also provided with three examples in the art textbooks of the junior high school: Transformation of Flowers, Beautiful Books, and Decorate Lives, suggesting that the dominant effects of the three aspects in the education. The study prompted the understanding of the design study education and gave a reference for the following research on the design and the elementary education.
