During language learning, reading is a necessary skill for language learners,as well as an important way to obtain learning materials, messages and improve their abilities.Among listening, speaking, reading and writing these four language skills, reading is one of the most essential skills. Therefore,as an important learning skill, cultivating the ability of reading has been attracted much focus in senior high school.Besides, the scores of reading tests take up a large proportion in the whole English tests. In this situation, improving students' reading ability and level has become the major trend in Enlglish class. However,in the practical classes, there still exist some problems such as teachers are the dominters of the class while students are the passive listeners. These phenomenons are not helping improve students' reading grades. In addition,if students learn in such passive classroom environments for a long time, they will lose their interets of leaning English gradually. Thus, promoting students reading abilities has become a major object for the most English teachers and language reasearchers. With the development of teaching resolutions,Task-based Language Teaching Method has been put forward by some language reasearchers in 1980 s.This method is a key breakthrough in English class teachig. It refers to assign some related tasks to the students and during the completion of the tasks students will grasp the objective language points actively.Task-based Language Teaching Method advocates students participate in the classroom activities and obtain the knowledge by themselves. In Task-based Language Teaching classroom, teacher is more a monitor and organizer than a dominator.Teachers should also give students immediate feedbacks during the learning progress.Nowadays,Task-based Language Teaching Method has appealed many teachers' affection.Although Task-based Language Teaching Method has been put forward for a while,in China,it still has a long way to explore. Many experts and researchers have done a lot of studies on the Task-based Language Teaching Method, but there are still left some practical problems to deal with, especailly how to apply Task-based Language Teaching Method into English reading class in senior high school.Accroding to above reading situations, the author attempts to discover the effectiveness of Task-based Language Teaching Method in senior high school reading classes and try to explore which sub-ability can improve most.Based on this research aim,the author conducted a four-month teaching experiment in Urumqi No.10 middle school to figure out whether Task-based Language Teaching Method can improve students' reading grades and abilities. The research subjects were students in Class five and Class six. Each class has 42 students,84 students in total. After pre-test,it had proved that these two classes' students havethe same reading abilities. Thus, the author chose one of them as experiment class and the other as control class randomly. In the experiment class, the author used Task-based Language Teaching Method to teach them in reading class while in the control class traditional teaching method was adopted. After the experiment, the author found Task-based Language Teaching Method has improved students' reading ability especially their “details finding” abilities. The thesis has drawn some conclusions after the experiment. The assumption which is adopted at the beginning has been proved.Compared with the traditional teaching method,Task-based Language Teaching Method are more helpful in students' reading grades especially in the ability of detail scanning.According to the results of the expriment and class experiment experience,Task-based Language Teaching Method also proved to be efficient in class.
