A Study On Lexical Chunk Teaching Approach In Overcoming Chinglish In Junior Students' English Writing

As is known to all,junior students are at the starting stage of English language acquisition.If teachers don't have suitable teaching methods to guide them,they will resort to their mother tongue and create Chinglish in their English writing.Therefore,teachers must think and solve the problem of what teaching methods can be taken to help students avoid Chinglish.Lexical chunks feature the combination of vocabulary and grammar,thus its teaching approach provides a good means to improve the teaching of English writing.Furthermore,the approach plays a significant part in developing students' English thinking and reducing the occurrence of Chinglish in their writing.The author tries to use Lexical Approach to reduce the influence of negative transfer of mother tongue.In order to overcome Chinglish and improve the students' writing skill,the research aims at solving the following problems:(1)The concept,classification,and function of prefabricated language chunks,as well as the forms of Chinglish.(2)To study the common problems in junior students' writing,particularly the situation of Chinglish.(3)To adopt questionnaire survey about Lexical Approach for reducing Chinglish in students' writing.(4)To investigate whether Lexical Approach can increase lexical chunks and reduce Chinglish in students' writing.The author chose two classes in Zhenjiang No.3 Junior Middle School as the subjects to carry out the experiment.One class was selected as the control group,and the students were given the traditional teaching method.Another class was chosen as the experimental group,where the Lexical Approach was applied.The experiment was conducted in the second term of 2016.Research methods are questionnaire surveys and experimental comparison,the data from which were put into the computer and analyzed.The consequence of the research reveals the following findings:(1)Compared with the control group,the experimental group made greater achievements in their writing scores and the use of lexical chunks.The students have increased writing interest and confidence.(2)The use of Lexical Approach can effectively overcome Chinglish and make the language more accurate and native so that the students' English writing level can be improved.In brief,the research is meaningful to cultivate students' learning ability and update the teachers' teaching idea and method.
