In 2001,the State Ministry of Education in China issued the New English Curriculum Standard which explicitly stated that task-based language teaching should be advocated and applied in English teaching.Taking the specific tasks as power or motivation,task-based language teaching requires students to complete tasks as learning processes and present their task achievements as the teaching results.They can use the known language naturally in the process of doing things and develop the language skills in the course of using the known language.Reading is one of the most important skills.But at present,there are some teachers in rural junior high school,especially in the poor remote mountainous areas where there are many left behind students,still use the simple translation method to teach reading,because they worry they can't finish the teaching goals,considering the laziness and passive attitudes of the students.They focus too much on the language forms,words,and grammar.This is very difficult to stimulate students' learning motivation.The author of this thesis applies TBLT to English reading teaching in order to stimulate students' reading motivation.In the period of one-term experiment,the author of this thesis selected Class Two,Grade Two students as the subjects.The results of the experiment demonstrated that the application of task-based language teaching is more effective than the traditional English reading teaching method.Most of the students gladly accept the application of task-based language teaching in their reading learning and they hold a very positive attitude to it.Because they thought it could arouse their reading interest,stimulate their motivation to speak English while completing the tasks,let them experience the feeling of the success,cultivate their confidence,improve their reading and problem-solving abilities,foster their cooperative ability,communicative competence and the comprehensive language using ability and promote their all-round development as well.
