As one of the basic competences in English,writing is a vital and tough part in teaching a foreign language.Observing from the practice junior high school,it can be seen that teachers pay more attention to lexical and grammars,less to cohesion and coherence when they have writing lessons.Meanwhile,students there do not focus on their writing,let alone cohesion and coherence in writing.To solve this problem,the thesis is designed to conclude a writing teaching mode based on cohesion and coherence theory and apply it into junior high school English writing teaching.The teaching mode is based on process-focused approach,which can be concluded as analyzing-preparing-writing drafts-revising-rewriting.First,the teacher and students all together analyze the text which is full of cohesive and coherent devices;second,students can prepare for the writing;third,students should write drafts for the first time,they should revise by themselves,peers and the teacher;lastly,they should rewrite the final drafts.The teaching mode pay more attention to cohesion and coherence than the traditional mode in CC.This teaching mode aims to solve two research questions: what is the effect of the teaching mode based on cohesion and coherence theory on English writing achievement? What are the changes of students' awareness of cohesion and coherence in writing?The experiment is conducted in Shenyang No.43 Middle School for 3 months.It uses two research methods: pretest and posttest and questionnaires.In pretest and posttest,it uses pretest between EC(Class One)and CC(Class Two)and the result of sig shows that the two classes have no obvious differences.After training cohesion and coherence theory for three months,the researchers do posttest to compare two classes' grades to testify the effect of the theory.In questionnaire,it uses a questionnaire to survey the experimental class(Class One)students of Grade 8 about their awareness of coherence in writing.After training the cohesion and coherence theory for three months,the same questionnaire is completed again in the same class to find out the changes of students' awareness of cohesion and coherence in writing.Through analyzing the data of questionnaires and tests,the conclusion is that the teaching mode based on cohesion and coherence theory has great effect on junior high school students' achievements and the changes of students' awareness of cohesion and coherence in writing during learning cohesion and coherence theory.Then the thesis puts forward some suggestions for other teachers based on the conclusion.
