Oil is the important resource that is closely linked to the strategic development of the country. During oil exploration, drilling core is the most important information to research the underground mineral resources. The scientific researchers can directly gain the information of underground through observing the drilling cores. Therefore, the basic work of oil-gas field exploration and exploitation is how to acquire, analyze and manage the drilling cores information. At present, the management mode of the drilling core in most oilfields is still the traditional warehouse management. The researchers analyze the characteristics of the drilling core using the traditional artificial judgemental, classified and statistic methods. So,it not only takes the heavy work with the lower efficiency, but also is easily influenced by subjective elements. And because of the late research need, it has to move or sample the cores many times. Combining with natural weathering, it will cause the loss of cores or the loss of information, thus unfavorable to deeply carry out the follow-up work.In recent years, with the development of digital imaging technology, high-resolution image collection device has been widely put into use in oil fields, that completely and timely preserves the original information of the drilling cores, to avoid the information loss of the drilling cores caused by moving, sampling, or natural weathering. Thus, the original core information can be saved permanently.In this paper, based on the actual condition of the core information management, the database management technology is applied to the core management field. We design the optimum database, with the integrated application of digital image processing technology and software development technology, truly realizing the integrative management of the core information, improving the efficiency of the core management and analysis.Core images provide the direct and essential data for the research and analysis of drilling core. In this paper, having deeply studied the current digital image processing technology and its specific application, with the help of the computer s data processing ability, a set of image processing software is developed. The software provides the abundant image processing functions, such as contrast enhancement, filtering, edge detection, image segmentation, etc. In addition, the software can automatically calculate the core parameters such as porosity, providing some reference for core analysis and laying the foundation for developing the more complex system in the next step.Based on SQL Server 2005 as the backend database, C# as development platform, core digital management system is developed. The system has a friendly interface, and is convenient to operate. It is advantageous to manage the core information, and the image processing methods can satisfy the analysis of the core image.
