With the development of horizontal well technology, horizontal well is widely applied to all kinds of oil and gas reservoirs. However, due to the long horizontal section and heterogeneity of physical properties along it, inflow profile along horizontal section is often unevenly distributed. In bottom water reservoir, water is prone to break in high permeability zone, leading to water flooding and low ultimate recovery.Inflow control device is installed between sand face and wellbore as a part of well completion hardware equipments. It exerts a resistance to the fluids from high permeability zone to reduce the production rate. The inflow profile will be balanced as a result. Since ICD is an passive completion method whose sthength is set before its being run into the hole, the parameters can’t be changed after installment. Thus, it’s necessary to make ICD parameter optimization research on water and profile control.Based on literature research, this paper investigates the bottom water coning principle and water breakthrough law considering the coupling flow of reservoir and the wellbore. The effect of horizontal length, avoiding water height and permeability anisotropy on water breakthrough time and breakthrough recovery is analyzed. Next, the water control mechanism of ICD is studied, and ICD water control principle is researched by analyzing the location, length and flow rate of controlling section of ICD. Reservoir adaptability of ICD is evaluated from the aspects of permeability heterogeneity, vertical to horizontal permeability ratio and ICD to reservoir pressure drop ratio. Then, gray relative analysis method is applied to conduct segmentation to horizontal reservoir. ICD type optimum principle is formed by analyzing ICD pressure drop mechanism. Last, a technological process of the number and size of ICD is established. Field case study demonstrates that the method of ICD parameter optimization provided in this paper can exert the water and profile control effectively.
