The Application Of The PRO Scale For Lumbar Disc Herniation And A Comparative Study With The JOA Scale

Background:There are a lot of evaluation method for lumbar disc herniation nowadays, but less about the patient’s self-evaluation. Traditional Chinese medicine is mainly the reaction in the improvement of symptoms in patients with lumbar disc herniation, It is similar with PRO scale assessment methods. The PRO scale of patient with lumbar disc herniation developed by Spine department lof Wangjing Hospital evaluats the health status of patients comprehensively. It can reflect the features and advantages of Traditional Chinese medicine used in the treatment of the patient with lumbar disc herniation and has great significance.Object:This research aims at figuring out the outcome of lumbar disc herniation PRO scale used for Patients with lumbar disc herniation in the treatment of different stages, analyzing the difference between the PRO scale and the JOA scale.Task:1. To find out the effect of lumbar disc herniation PRO scale, verify the scale efficacy evaluation method.2. To find out the difference between the PRO scale and the JOA scale, evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the two scales.Method:Screen the cases of LIDH for hospitalized treatment in Spine department1of Wangjing Hospital of China Acadamy of Chinese Medicine Science from August2011to March2012. Evaluating the treatment effect before and after treatment using PRO Scale and JOA scale.Then establish a database, and analyse statistically by appropriate means.Result:1. Screen61cases of LIDH for hospitalized treatment in Spine department1of Wangjing Hospital,33cases were male and28females. The age range was22-63years old, mean47.75±9.96. 2. PRO score before and after treatment:Average PRO score before treatment is30.59±12.31,after treatment42.66±9.69, indicateing change has significant difference statistically (P=0.00<0.001)3. JOA score before and after treatment:Average JOA score before treatment is14.92±5.97, after treatment23.18±3.70, indicateing change has significant difference statistically (P=0.00<0.001).4. The relationship between PRO score and JOA score:A high correlation between PRO score JOA score before treatment (r=0.563), A high correlation between PRO score JOA score after treatment (r=0.505).5. The investigation of the patients’recognition towards the PRO scale:59cases think that the PRO scale used in this study include more comprehensive information of patients,2cases think that the PRO scale used in this study do not include enough information of patients.6.Time cost in filling the two scales:PRO scale before treatment mean4.90±2.87min; PRO scale after treatment2.98±1.67min; JOA scale before treatment mean4.25±0.89min; JOA scale after treatment mean3.39±0.64min.7. Responsiveness of PRO scale: CR of PRO scores is0.39; ES of PRO scores is0.98; SRM of PRO scores is1.11. Reflect a high degree of responsiveness.8. Reliability of PRO scale:Cronbach’s Alpha of PRO scores is0.818, reflect a high degree of reliability.Conclusion:1. There is a high degree of correlation between PRO scale and JOA scale when they are used for analyzing the evaluation of the therapeutic effect of the patient suffererd from LIDH.2. PRO scale can truly reflect the disease status of patient suffererd from LIDH, it make up for the measurement method of the state change of the cl inical evaluat ion of patients with lumbar disc herniation. 3. The lumbar disc herniation PRO scale has a high reliability, responsiveness, and acceptance, it has certain value of clinical applications from the results of the study.
