Looking back on the development history of Chinese full-length TV documentary,it is easy to discover that there are some very important turning points. At each turning point some documentaries emerged which are quite typical and also have extensive and far-reaching impact.Since the 21 st century,we had big hits in documentary, such as The Imperial Place and The Rise of the Great Powers. It shows that we had distinct transitions of documentary in material selecting, aesthetic pursuit and artistic language. All the transitions lead to some positive effects. For instance, more full-length documentaries are on the television and meanwhile have huge sensational effect among audience;Continuously more and more advertisements go to documentaries;More documentaries are able to be watched in the theater and their box office keep reaching new peaks.Today as the modernization gets more popularity,A Bite of China in2012 and A Bite of China II in 2015 which are serial documentaries presenting the Chinese traditional food reached a sensational effect that even the production team haven't anticipated.Hence, under the background of entering a new century, the development of documentary in our country, the transformation opportunity, the power and the trends of marketization have become the hot issues for experts, scholars and media workers. In this context, this paper takes the documentaries that were on the national TV station in the new century and in the meantime had a huge impact among audience as the research sample, and use literature analysis method, contrast analysis and logical analysis to study the market transition and the characteristics of full-length TV documentaries in our country produced in the new century. The paper is divided into four parts:The first part is a review of the 3 stages that our full-length TV documentaries have been through, including propaganda, recording of actual events, market transition and also analyze the four driving forces, such as political power, cultural power, social power and marketing power; The second part focuses on market transition in our full-length TV documentaries produced in the new century, including its background, status quo and feasibility; The third part is a revealing of the characteristics of our full-length TV documentaries through the practice of popularization and the concept of diversification; The fourth part is an outlook into the future of market transition in our full-length TV documentaries and my hope for more brilliant documentaries in China and achievements in the marketization and eventually better results of the development of documentary.
