Huang Shaoxiang And His Study Of American History

Shao-xiang Huang(1915-2015),a well-known American history expert,is famous for her thinking and study on American issues.Her books mark the beginning of American-history study in China and play an irreplaceable role in its development.In China,she is the first one to conduct research,from the Marxism point of view;she is the pioneer of American history study early after the foundation of thePeople’s Repulic of China and prompts its blossom in both teaching and discipline construction.The academic contribution from Shao-xiang Huang is huge,but the study of her research remains little.This article aims to further promote the academic study of Shao-xiang Huang and her academic achievements by focusing on her life and study,books and academic views,historiography thoughts and methods,etc.Shao-xiang Huang,whose life is full of frustrations and is of great significance,has a hard time throughout her education,which on the other hand,helps form her spirit of perseverance,and meticulosity in study.The strong concern on Chinese society and the practice of revolutionary work leads to her high sense of social responsibility and sacrifice.The two-year experiencing American life and culture fills her with strong awareness for both competition and progress.The intensive education,mixed with difficulty and hope,strengthens her perseverance on Marxism and American history study.Shao-xiang Huang has a rich publication,with 4 monographs,1 collected paper and over 40 thesis.4 monographs,set in specific time era,had certain influence on Chinese society and domestic academia.Another over 40 theses mainly involves historical discourse,read reviews,history theory and academic debates.Regardless of her articles or books,her academic achievement is foll of practical significance and committed to the guidance of the Marxist and inspires readers of different times.Shao-xiang huang’s academic research always adheres to the Marxist historiography,taking the guidance of historical materialism for both macroscopic theory and microscopic incidents,throughout her research and study.The adopted historiography combines history-theory integration,contradictory analysis,data statistics,etc.Her historical thought and historical method is to connected with each other,and complements each other.The historical thought is the core content of the academic achievements,while the historical method is the way of how academic achievements are presented.Her writing ideas and method also have certain reference significance.Reviewing the Shao-xiang Huang’s life,through the analysis and study of academic achievements,hopefully the academic study of Shao-xiang Huang and American history can be further promoted.
