From The Perspective Of Ecological Translation Studies, The English Translation Of The Chinese Language Of The Yellow Emperor's Internal Classics

With the development of economic globalization and the implementation of China's "Go Global" policy,Chinese medicine,as a major part of our traditional Chinese culture,has gradually participated in the activities of the international trade and been accepted by the western world.Under such circumstances,TCM translation,working as a bridge for foreigners to learn about TCM,plays an increasingly important role in TCM international communication.As nurturing life is a significant part of TCM,more attention should also be paid to the translation of the phraseology of life nurturing.Nowadays,however,there are,a small amount of researchers who have done some researches in this field.Therefore,it is essential to attach great importance to it.Objectives:From the analysis on the two Engligh versions of Huangdi's Cannon of Medicine based on Hu Gengshen's Eco-translatology,the author aims at providing a distinctive perspective for the study of the methods and strategies about the translation of the phraseology of life nurturing.Methods:This thesis selects some expressions about nurturing life from the chapters in Hunagdi's Canon of Medicine according to A Great Collection of Studies on Huangdi's Cannon of Medicine by Wang Hongtu.Under the guidance of Eco-translatory,this study tries to explain the process of how the two translators adapted to the source text and made the adaptive selection by a comparison of the two English versions of Hangdi's Canon of Medicine.Conclusions:In order to adapt to the translation environment and make a good adaptive selection,the two translators adopted different translation methods and strategies.Li did a better work on the adaptive selection in linguistic and cultural dimensions and both of the two versions have reached their communication purpose,which means that they have all done well in communicative dimension.Moreover,Eco-translatology has a strong effect on the descriptive analysis about the translation of the phraseology of life nurturing in Huangdi'sCanon of Medicine.Innovations:This is the first try to have a comparative study on the translation of the phraseology of life nurturing on the basis of the Eco-translatology,which has enriched the research about the English versions of Huangdi's Canon of Medicine.Besides,this thesis provides a new and creative perspective for the translation study on TCM classics.Limitations:Firstly,there are few people who did such a research before,so the reference books or materials are hard to find,which makes the study very difficult and is bound to lead to a limitation on its depth and range.But it also gives the later researchers more chances to have a further study in this field.Secondly,this paper only analyzes some of the translations of the expressions about life nurturing from the two English versions of Huangdi's Canon of Medicine,and the examples given to each aspect are very limited,some of which are not persuadable enough for all readers.Lastly,this study only focuses on the analysis of the three-dimensional transmission in terms of the adaptive selection,which is only one aspect of the Eco-translatology.
