With the constant development of science and technology,surveying and mapping technology has gradually departed from the excessive dependence on manpower.As a new type of measurement,3D laser scanning has made great progress in recent years.As an important part of the ecosystem,forestry can absorb carbon dioxide,and some plants can produce fruit and provide food for mankind.By applying 3D laser technology to forestry,it can make three-dimensional reconstruction of trees and improve the research process of forestry visualization.In the case of not destroying trees,the point cloud data of trees can be obtained quickly,real and directly,and can achieve high accuracy,overcoming the problems of low data efficiency,large labor intensity and poor automation in traditional forestry survey.This article start from the 3D reconstruction of individual trees,through 3D laser scanner to obtain trees of point cloud data,calculate the trees the information such as tree height,crown breadth,DBH,analysis the application of 3D laser resourceful advantages,and puts forward a calculation method of canopy volume,using Matlab programming.In order to display the advantages of point cloud data acquisition using3 D laser scanning,this paper compares it with the data acquisition of the same fast Multi-view stereoscopic photogrammetry method,and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of both.Use of a 3D laser scanner to obtain the point cloud data,and splicing,cutting and other processing,the point cloud data according to the characteristics of the branches grow trees segmentation,on the one hand,handling a large number of point cloud data and the computation burden,on the other hand,reduce the error caused by the calculation method.After segmentation of point cloud data by using Matlab for processing,will be cut of point cloud data within the scope of its Z value according to the set value of k isometric partitioning,in k under the condition of the minimal,to obtain segmentation of point cloud projection,building a closed surface using convex hull algorithm,polygon area calculation,using the progenitor Geng theorem,accumulative calculate crown volume.
