Investigation And Evaluation Of Wild Ornamental Plants Resources In Dongyuan Kanghe Provincial Nature Reserve In Guangdong

Wild ornamental plants are excellent germplasm resources and valuable materials in modern garden ornamental plant breeding.Our country has abundant resources in wild ornamental plants.However,the exploitation and utilization is still have a long way to go.Guangdong Dongyuan Kanghe provincial Nature Reserve is a place with superior natural environment conditions,where there are abundant wild ornamental plant resources.The author chose the Kanghe Nature Reserve as a research area and made a full research and comprehensive analysis and evaluation on its wild ornamental plant resources,in the hope of providing a scientific basis for the protection and utilization of these resources.The main results are as follows:According to our survey statistics,Kanghe Nature Reserve has 139 families,288 genera and 465 species of wild plants with high ornamental value as preliminary screening,including 31 families,52 genera and 85 species of ferns;3 families,3 genera and 4 species of gymnosperms;105 families,233 genera and 375 species of angiosperm(91 families,191 genera and 324 species of dicotyledonous plants,14 families,42 genera and 52 species of monocotyledonous plants).Wild ornamental plants in Kanghe Nature Reserve can be divided into 5 categories according to theirs different life forms.They are ornamental ferns(85 species),ornamental bamboo plants(6 species),ornamental climbing plants(76 species),ornamental trees(209species),ornamental herbaceous plants(89 species).There are 6 large families which include more than 10 species among wild ornamental plants in Kanghe Nature Reserve,and they are Fagaceae,Lauraceae,Euphorbiaceae,Fabaceae,Ericaceae and Orchidaceae.There are 12 large genera which include more than 5species and they are Castanopsis,Rhododendron,Pteris,Glochidion,Ficus,Ardisia,Lindera,Clematis,Syzygium,Melastoma,Machilus and Cyclobalanopsis.With abundant wild ornamental plants resources,Kanghe Nature Reserve shows obvious tropical qualities,which displays the transitional characteristics from tropical to temperate.According to the statistical results,at the families level,with its 84 families,the tropical families occupied 60.43% of the total number of families.While the temperate nature occupied only 14.39%,which is far less than tropical nature.At the genera level,the proportion of the tropical nature is 76.39%,still far more than the temperate nature that occupied only 18.75%.Moreover,Among the wild ornamental plants in Kanghe Nature Reserve,its 83 species are endemic to China,17 species are the national key protected plants,17 species are the rare and endangered plants.Wild ornamental plants in Kanghe Nature Reserve can be divided into 11 categories according to different landscape application.They are shade trees(76 species),shrub plants(43 species),scenic woods(65 species),hedgerow and topiary plants(18 species),vertical greening plants(72 species),stumps bonsai trees(7 species),herbaceous flowers(33species),ground-cover plants(15 species),indoor ornamental plants(73 species),wetland plants(29 species)and rock plants(49 species).This study chose 80 wild ornamental trees,50 wild ornamental vines and 48 wild ornamental herbs to evaluate comprehensively by using the analytic hierarchy process.According to the final score,33 species of wild ornamental trees are recommended for development and utilization,such as Rhodomyrtus tomentosa,Melia azedarach,Dichroa febrifuga,Liquidambar formosana,Dendrobenthamia hongkongensis and Euscaphis japonica,etc.17 species of wild ornamental vines are recommended,including Bauhinia glauca,Bauhinia glauca,Merremia hederacea,Bauhinia corymbosa,Tripterospermum nienkui and Mussaenda pubescens and so on.48 wild ornamental herbs are recommended,including Alpinia chinensis,Anoectochilus roxburghii,Senecio scandens,Celosia argentea,Monochoria vaginalis and Piper sarmentosum and and so forth.
