As the third batch of historical and cultural cities in the country, the city of Hanzhoung existed in 312 BC,and has been in the history of more than 2300 years. However, with the acceleration of urbanization, historical districts have been damaged to a considerable extent, and need to be protected urgently. The primary issue of protection is to understand the heritage. The study of the status quo of the heritage is the first step in carrying out the protection work.GIS(Geographic Information System)has outstanding advantages in the storage, analysis of heritage information and so on,providing the possibility for the optimization of current status and evaluation. On the basis of previous studies, this paper studies the working methods of the status assessment of Hanzhoung historical blocks under the support of GIS technology through literature research, field research, quantitative analysis, interdisciplinary research and other methods. The article is divided into four parts.First,on the basis of extensive study of the domestic and foreign heritage evaluation system, the evaluation object and evaluation are made. The purpose and content, the evaluation method, the evaluation tool, the evaluation index and so on have set up the comprehensive evaluation system of the present situation of Hanzhoung historical districts, make the comprehensive evaluation frame of the present situation of Hanzhoung historical districts, analyze and evaluate the present situation of Hanzhoung historical districts in an all-round way;secondly, study the GIS technology in the evaluation of the status of the historical districts. On the aspect of application,it relies on the GIS platform to store and manage basic geographic data, such as terrain(mountain water system),road network, building and so on,satellite image data of different years, existing planning data, spatial data and attribute data of historical districts(field investigation or literature research),etc. After establishing a good database, the GIS spatial analysis method is applied to the analysis of the status of heritage resources, value assessment and decision making of auxiliary protection in historical districts and even urban areas.Through historical research and literature research, the formation and evolution of Hanzhoung city and historical districts are combed, with the aid of GIS on the basis of perceptual knowledge. In the area of urban areas to identify the general space location and boundary of historical districts, and then conduct field research, record the survey data into GIS,analyze the historical and current characteristics of the historical districts in Hanzhoung. On the other hand, through the horizontal comparison of several historic blocks in the urban area, the historical and cultural districts are identified;finally, the Dongguan Street is on the street. The historical and cultural districts are evaluated comprehensively.Based on the results of the assessment, the protection range of historical and cultural districts is defined, and the suggestions and measures for the classification of historic buildings and streets and lanes are made. This study preliminarily summarizes the working methods and technical points of the comprehensive assessment of the status of historical districts, clarifies the application of GIS and the specific application methods, and uses GIS technology to evaluate the status of Hanzhoung's historical districts, and realizes The delineation of the zoning in the historical and cultural districts of the Dong Guan Street according to the results of the assessment.,the research and summary of the technical advantages of GIS in the assessment, and the prospect of follow-up protection and management.Through this study,it is believed that the protection of urban historical heritage is confronted with the contradiction between protection and development, and the ways and means of heritage protection need to be changed. However, this study is still in its infancy, and there are still shortcomings in the establishment and application of the database, which need to be further studied and practiced.
