Vanadium deposit is one of the important mineral resources in Gansu province which represented by the Fangshankou large-scale phosphorus-vanadium deposit, the vanadium ore are mostly occurred in the black rock series of Cambrian. The occurrence position and ore type of the Wuyishan vanadium deposit are similar with Fangshankou phosphorus-vanadium deposit, but also differences. In this study,we analyze the geological characteristics of the strata, structure and vanadium ore,and summarize the prospecting potential of the Wuyishan vanadium deposit using detailed field geological survey and various sample analysis. The wuyishan vanadium deposit is located in the passive continental margin of the Tarim Basin. It is characterized by frequent,large-scale magmatic activities and violent tectonic activities. The strata and intrusive rocks in this area are mainly controlled by nearly east-westward fractures, the outcrop strata are Pingtoushan Formation of Jixian Period,Xishuangyingshan Formation of Cambrian,Heijianshan Formation and Gongpoquan Group of Silurian,Shuangputang Formation of Permian, and Quaternary. The occurrence of the Wuyishan vanadium deposit is controlled by strata strictly, the ore body occurred in the gray-black carbonaceous slates of the Xishuangyingshan Formation of Cambrian. The mineralization zone is as layered distribute which has a total length of 18 km.The ore body roof is gray-black silica slate, and the ore body floor is gray-white sandy dolomite and silty slate. The fold structure is very developed, which controlled the morphology of orebody in this area. There are 8 ore bodies have been delineated in the exploration area. The vanadium pentoxide resource quantity of this deposit is about 500,000 tons now, which can be classified as a medium-sized vanadium deposit. The vanadium ore is basically carbon slate type, which characterized as blastopelitic, granoblastic and lepido granoblastic texture, plate and micro-bedding structure.Vanadium elements exist in Mica minerals, and Tourmaline and Garnet containing vanadium In the form of isomorphism. The vanadium ores of this deposit are associated with silver, phosphorus, molybdenum, selenium, gallium, palladium and many other elements,so its has a great potential for development. The vanadium ore body of Wuyishan occurred in the second stage of Xishuangyingshan Formation of Cambrian, lithology from below mainly are sandy dolomite, carbonaceous slate, siliceous slate. The grain size of the siliceous slate from the bottom to the upper is coarsely fined, which is a set of clastic-chemical deposition of shallow sea facies. The vanadium ore occurred in the carbonaceous slate which shows that its fromed in the reduction environment.Vanadium has a rich source of material.Vanadium elements are adsorbed by clay particles in the sea water that leads to the formation of vanadium containing carbonaceous siliceous shale in which the vanadium elements with relatively uniform distribution. The vanadium elements enriched by metamorphism and its producing potassium vanadium uranium ore and phosphate vanadium ore. Therefore, the deposit is a sedimentary metamorphic vanadium deposit which in the initial stage of transgression,is formed in the continental margin in the shallow sea environment. The wuyishan vanadium deposit belong to sedimentary deposits, there is a great potential for prospecting in the deep due to the orebody are deepening stably in tendency. However, the complex fold is very develop and its morphology is complicated in the mining area, strengthening the research on the fold structure and deploying the exploration engineering rationally will expanding the reserves of resources of the deposit.
