Stamping die has the advantages of high forming precision and high production efficiency.It is an important way for the form manufacturing of sheet metal parts.In order to investigate the problems of high dependence on the experience of mold designers,repeated design modifications and the long design cycle,the research on intelligent design method of stamping process and the die structure are performed by using the UG platform and knowledge fusion(KF)development tool of Knowledge Based Engineering(KBE).Based on the analysis of task requirements and design flow of progressive die design,the framework of Progressive Die Intelligent Design System(PDIDS)is constructed,which consists of the design resource layer,the associated design layer,the functional layer and the user interface layer,and the development platform of the framework is also analyzed.The knowledge of intelligent progressive die is systematically analyzed,and the expressive methods of diverse die design knowledge including the algorithmic knowledge,empirical knowledge,database knowledge,are given.The existing blank layout algorithm is systematically analyzed and compared,the results show that touch algorithm is suitable for both convex and concave contour parts,and is advantageous of fast search.The calculation principle of the face-to-back,face-to-face and back-to-back is analyzed,aiming at the problem that the horizontal search may fail in the traditional touch algorithm in face-to-face and back-to-back way,a horizontal search step determination criterion is proposed,and the reliability of the method is verified by the example.The stamping feature knowledge and the strip layout knowledge are summed,the design flow of knowledge based stamping process and the design example of process layout are given.The advantages and disadvantages of typical die sets are analyzed,and the principle of die selection is given.The three relationships of die set process are defined,which are the relationship of blank outer contour and the size of the mold,the positioning relationship among the die parts,and the assembly relationship between the parts and the assembly,the generative assembly model of progressive die set is proposed based on the top-down principle,and the die set design flow is given.A knowledge based intelligent design prototype system for progressive die was developed by using UG/KF,UG/OPEN UI styler,UG/OPEN Menuscript,UG/OPEN API and Visual Studio,and the functions of blank layout module,the strip layout module,the mold standard parts library and the mold assembly module are described by taking the the’car seat bracket as an example.The above research results provide the basis for the further development of the intelligent design system of progressive die,which will help to improve the design efficiency and design quality of progressive die.
