The light oil produced by atmospheric or vacuum distillation units in an oil refinery usually contains salts,which will cause great harm to the storage,transportation,processing,product quality and equipment,etc.In industry,adding water into the light oil can make salts dissolved in water,then using the oil-water separation method to achieve the purpose of desalination.Due to the compact structure,low energy consumption and simple operation,dewatering hydrocyclone is used to separate oil and water.In this paper,the experimental study on the separation performance of hydrocyclone is carried out with the mixture of 2#white oil—its properties are similar with the light oil—and water.The experimental study on the influence of operating parameters on the separation performance of D20 hydrocyclone is carried out.The operating parameters are changed during the experiment include inlet flow rate,split ratio and inlet water concentration.The influences of two structural parameters,the overflow pipe and the main diameter,on the performance of the dewatering hydrocyclone are studied respectively.The main conclusions are as follows:?1?There is an optimal split ratio during the operation of the hydrocyclone.For the D20 hydrocyclone,the optimal split ratio Fo?28??1.11.2?Ci,the change of the inlet flow rate basically makes no effect to the optimal split ratio.When the flow rate is constant,the overflow pressure drop decreases and the underflow pressure drop remains unchanged with the increase of the split ratio.The pressure drop ratio decreases with the increase of the split ratio—the relationship is linear.?2?Increasing the diameter of the overflow pipe can reduce the energy loss,but the overflow pipe either too large or too small will reduce the efficiency.Increasing the main diameter can expand the efficient operating area of hydrocyclone.When the main diameter is reduced to 14 mm,a performance failure occurs.?3?The Function relation is established between Euler number Eu and four dimensionless(the split ratio F,the Reynolds number Re,the dimensionless overflow pipe size dof/D and the dimensionless inlet size De/D).And the prediction model of simplification is obtained by fitting the experimental data of D20 hydrocyclone.The model has better prediction results for D28 hydrocyclone.
