Hydrocyclone is very widely used equipment, which is used for separating the heterogeneous liquid mixture. Although the study on separation technology is deepening, the hydrocyclone for the separation of fine particles is still at the stage of exploration and development. The basic principle is that the liquid - liquid, liquid -solid, and liquid– gas with a certain different density will be separated under the action of the centrifugal force. It's efficiency is high and the space occupied by the separation equipment is small. It also can operate continuously. In general, the solid particles suspended in liquid can be separated by size, density and shape.That so-called classification is that separate the solid particles with the same density by particle size. As the separation efficiency of the hydrocyclone increases with the particle size, so that the solid particles in the feed can be divided into coarse particles and fine particles. That is the hydrocylone can be used as classification equipment.The classification precision of the hydrocyclone for classification in small iron is relatively low. The classification granularity is also low. The tailings waste seriously.Now this issue is to design a hydro cyclone for small irons for classification, so that it can achieve the required classification. First, the paper explored the effect of the structure parameters, inlet flow, and split ratio to the pressure drop. Then find a general rule. At last change the parameters and obtain the rule of the classification efficiency.The results show that: the drop of the hydro cyclone increases with the import flow, and the drop and the import flow have an evident exponential relationship; With the split ratio increases, the pressure drop of the underflow has a clear increasing trend, while the pressure drop of the overflow has little change;As the angle changes, both the pressure drop of the underflow and the overflow increase; When the diameter of the underflow increases, the pressure drop of the underflow have a decreasing trend, while the pressure drop of the overflow keep stable and have little change; In the case of there was a back pressure or not, the pressure drop of the underflow hold the line.In the experiment of classification efficiency, as the flow increases, d50 decreases; when the split ratio increases, d50 increases. In general, the split ratio should not exceed the value of 0.35. While more than 0.35, the effect of separation will decline rapidly and it will not reach the results that needed Meanwhile the particle size that graded out is also relatively disordered. When the angle changed, as the angle changes from 17°to 120°, the d50 will become larger.The paper have a preliminary definition to the separation scope of the small flow hydrocyclone that for separation of practical, and have a rough pre-judgment that in what circumstances there will reach the best grade. This provides a theoretical basis and a practical method for the study of the classification efficiency of the small flow hydrocyclone that for piratical separation.
