The Cr12 MoV is a kind of ledeburite die steel.There are a lot of eutectic carbides in the microstructure of the steel as-cast.By means of low impact toughness,the steel must be forged to refine the eutectic carbides and improve the morphology and distribution of eutectic carbides in as-cast.To directly heat treatment the Cr12 MoV steel as-cast that was not be forged,the modification treatment of the steel with Ti and rare-earth was carried out in this experiment program.The author have investigated the influence of the smeltimg process on the melting loss of rare-earth and Ti,and the influence of the modification treatment of the steel with Ti and rare-earth.The results showed that a highest retain-ratio of Ti and the rare-earth have obtained in the steel when the steel have smelt with a protection of Ar,the modification treatment of the steel with Ti and rare-earth have also increased the impact toughness by means of improving the the morphology and distribution of eutectic carbides.The modification treatment of the steel with Ti and rare-earth have no evident influence on the Rockwell hardness and the strength of the steel.And the results has also regard as that the steel has bad flowability,a higher linear coefficient of shrinking and more structure defects.
