Melatonin is a neurohormone and the main function is adjusting the circadian rhythm,converting the sleep-wake rhythm,and improving sleepy quality,meanwhile melatonin has the ability to anti oxidation,free radical scavenging,anti-inflammatory,anti-apoptosis,reduce body temperature,inhibit tumor growth,inhibit reproduction function,improve memory,cure senile dementia,delay aging,anti-anxiety and so on.Thus melatonin was widely used as OTC drug and healthy food in the adjuvant treatment of sleepy disease.The composition of melatonin was determined to be 3-N-Acetyl-5-methoxyl tryptamine by chemical research.Melatonin mainly existed in the body of lots kinds of creatures,such as bacterial,plants and insects.According to the following characters of micro-reactor:(1)short diffusion distance,high mass transfer rate,and the heat transfer rate of micro-reactor was higher 2-3 order of magnitude than traditional reactor.(2)decreasing or eliminating the by-product,improving the selectivity and yield of reaction,simplifying the process,increasing the productivity.(3)closed and continuous reaction process,low transient holding volume,high auto-control,accurate reaction control,safety and environment friendly technology.(4)easy to be amplified without amplification effect,short transfer periods,and small occupied area,decreasing the investment cost and energy consumption.In order to find out an energy saving,decreasing “three wastes” and environment friendly synthesis process.Our research investigated the micro-reactor system technology of producing melatonin with ethyl 2-oxopiperidine-3-carboxylate and 4-methoxyaniline.In order to save energy and reduce consumption,ethyl 2 – oxopiperidine-3-carboxylate and 4-methoxyaniline was used as row material to produce melatonin in the microreactor.The traditional synthesis method and micro reactor synthesis of 1:2:3:4-tetrahydro-6-methoxy-l-oxo-?-carboline,5-Methoxyfryptamine-2-carboxylic,5-Methoxyfryptamine,and melatonin was investigated in this article.The effect of residence time,feed ratio and reactants concentration were explored,and the optimal method was determined.Meanwhile the three wastes conditions of different synthesis process were compared.From the comparison between the product produced by microreactor and the corresponding referent,it can be concluded that micro reactor has the advantages of simplified operation,accurate feed ratio and high yield.
