The Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang are relics of Buddhist art with the longest history and the most exquisite art in the world, and it is the model of Oriental aesthetics.A large number of magnificent frescoes with wide contents and obvious styles are preserved in the caverns. The rich decorative language in the frescoes is an indispensable part.Ying Luo,as one of the decorative language contents of Dunhuang frescoes, has its own unique expression language, which reflects the cultural characteristics and aesthetic tendency of ancient society.Ying Luo,called as "keyura" in Sanskrit and transliterated into "Ji you luo" in Chinese,is one of the most exquisite and gorgeous decorations of Buddhist figure statues. In Dunhuang frescoes and decorations of painted Buddhas,we can see all kinds of Ying Luo ornaments with exquisite and different shapes, which are the concrete expression of Dunhuang decorative art. With the change of the times, the structural form, color collocation and connotation of Ying Luo are developing and innovating constantly, and the decorative elements are changing and enriching constantly.Until the Tang Dynasty,Ying Luo was imitated and transformed into one of the most elegant decorations.Because of the particularity of the geographical position of Dunhuang,it can not only absorb western culture, but also maintain its own culture and aesthetic tendency. Therefore,we can say that Ying Luo of Dunhuang is a microcosm of the integration of foreign religious culture and Chinese native culture. This classical necklace, which has been active in ancient Chinese Society for centuries, has gradually faded out of people’s vision because of its contradiction with aesthetic needs in nowadays society. The author chooses the late Tang Dynasty as the time coordinate and starts with the expression of decorative artistic language in Dunhuang frescoes during this period in this paper, and then takes one of the decorative contents,Ying Luo,as an example to discuss the reference value of decorative language to contemporary jewelry design.Since the late Tang Dynasty was an important period for Buddhism to finally complete the secularization of Chinesization. At the same time,a large number of Ying Luo appearedin Dunhuang frescoes, and it formed its own unique style. Therefore, the author makes a comparative analysis of Bodhisattva frescoes in the same period through collecting a large number of frescoes of providers in Dunhuang in the late Tang Dynasty to start exploring the specific expressions of decorative language in Dunhuang frescoes in the late Tang Dynasty, such as structure, color and the features of decorative pattern,so as to arrange and summarize the unique decorative artistic language of Ying Luo in this period, and to discuss the possibility and value of the contemporary reference.Only by questioning tradition can we know about the present. To transform from the study of decorative expression of Ying Luo in Dunhuang to my own understanding and to apply it in my graduation design, which is the respect of the author for traditional culture, what’s more it is the exploration and speculation of enriching the creation language of contemporary jewelry.
