The continuous development of open-pit mines makes the slopes develop towards high and steep direction gradually. Therefore, how to properly analyze the stability of slopes and how to give early warning before slopes instability is of vital importance. In this paper, taking a slope of gongchangling open-pit mine as an engineering background, the stability of the slope of the open-pit mine is analyzed from two perspectives of numerical simulation and deformation monitoring. In terms of numerical simulation,it is firstly introduced that the method of realizing non-homogenization model based on parameters obeying Weibull statistical distribution in FLAC3D,and the influence of parameter variation in Weibull formula on the model stress and strain is analyzed.Secondly, the method is used to build heterogeneity model of the open-pit mine slope, and the stability of the non-homogeneous slope and the homogeneous slope is compared and analyzed by the strength reduction method.According to the horizontal displacement curve of the heterogeneous model, the position of the most dangerous sliding surface of the slope is obtained, which provides a certain basis for the reinforcement depth of the slope. In terms of deformation monitoring, firstly, based on the cusp catastrophe theory and grey theory, the calculation method of gray-cusp catastrophe model is introduced.According to the deformation monitoring data of the open-pit mine slope,gray-cusp catastrophe model of the slope is established.Secondly, according to the gray-cusp catastrophe model, the stability status of each monitoring station at the present stage is analyzed, and the sequence of abrupt instability of slope and the time when it may occur in theory are calculated, which provide a basis for determining the range of the slope's key reinforcement and the time period to be guarded.Combined with the results of numerical simulation and gray-cusp catastrophe model calculation results,it can be seen that the slope is in a stable state as a whole at the present stage, but there is a risk of local abrupt instability. The order of instability is first from the middle to the two sides, which requires timely treatment of the central region of the slope.
