A typical dam break occurred in Tonglüshan tailings pond of Daye,Hubei,China.Based on geological survey,unmanned aerial vehicle?UAV?monitoring,laboratory soil tests,rheology test and numerical simulation.The physical and mechanical properties,rheological characteristics and behavior of the dam-break in Tonglüshan tailings pond was analyzed.The main results list as follows:?1?Based on the field investigations and UAV,the characteristics of dam-break in Tonglüshan tailing pond,Daye,Hubei are analyzed,and digital models of dam break were established.?2?Based on the laboratory tests,the physical and mechanical properties of tailings in Tonglüshan were measured.Through the rheological test of tailings,it showed that the shear stress and apparent viscosity of the tailings slurry increased with the increase of the mass concentration of tailings.And with the increase of mass concentration,the phenomenon of"shear thinning"was more obvious in the tailings mortar.When the concentration of tailing slurry was in the range of 25%55%,the shear stress of the slurry was linear with the shear rate,showing the characteristics of Newton fluid.When the concentration was in the range of 60%76%,the slurry rheological curve including yield pseudoplastic fluid and Bingham fluid and Newton fluid in three stages with increasing shear rate.?3?The rheological model of tailings mortar with different concentration was analyzed,and the result revealed that on the shear rate of20s-1120s-1,tailings mortar in the concentration of 25%55%was showed with the rheological properties of Newton fluid,and tailings in the concentration of 60%80%was rheological properties of Bingham fluid.?4?Through the software of DAN3D,the process of dam break in different concentration of tailings mortar were simulated.The results showed that the rheological parameters of tailings mortar with a concentration of 74%could provide the best performance in simulating the whole process of dam break in Tonglüshan tailings pond.The simulation results show that the duration of dam-break in Tonglüshan tailings pond was180s,and the maximum velocity was about 22m/s during the period.The final deposit distribution of tailings from simulated results was consistent with the actual situation.?5?Meanwhile,based on the FLOW3D,a fluid mechanics calculation software,the whole process of dam break was simulated and compared.It was found that the duration of dam break was also 180s and the maximum velocity was 18.44m/s in FLOW3D.The comparison results showed that the two kinds of software can well simulate the whole process of dam break,but the final accumulation distribution in simulation by DAN3D is closer to the reality.
