Dies are mainly manufactured by NC machining,because of their co-mplex.In the highly competitive business environment,how to quickly an-d accurately estimate the machining time or cost of dies become very imp-ortant for enterprises,in case of getting orders,arranging production plans and obtaining profits.Based on actual machining processes of dies,the mathematical estim-ation models of roughing time,finishing time and clearing time is propos-ed,and the mapping relationship between manufacturing feature and mac-hining process is established.NC machining time estimation system of dies based on manufacturing feature is developed.Manufacturing feature is vary with machining process.Turning is us-ually used to machining rotary parts,and in order to achieve friendly user interface,an algorithm of extracting loops from edges is proposed;duing to the connectivity of WEDM features,an section-based feature recogni-tion technology is introduced in detail;As for milling,its workpieces and processes are all complex,especially at the stage of roughing,feature recognition,volume decomposition and tool combination optimization technologies are used.The system integrates the design information and process information based on manufacturing feature,and realizes automatic evaluation of ma-chining time of workpieces based on design model,and the error of results is within 10%,which provides a strong basis for the mold quotation and production management.
