As is known to all,toys are regarded as the world’s first “silent textbook”,playing an important role in the growth of children.With the rapid development of the advanced technology in the coming intelligent age,more and more advanced technologies are integrated into the toy design,making a new leap in toy development.However,the research of the smart toy design in China still in the development stage,which just lasts for about twenty years,there are still many defects in toy design.For example,toy manufacturers often ignore the particularities and needs of children’s physical and mental development,regarding the smart toy as a simplified version of“adult toy”.Apart from this,influenced by the traditional education,Chinese parents pay more attention to their children’s studies while ignoring the all-round educational value that toys bring to children.Focusing on the aforementioned problems,we attempt to combine the preschool education with the smart toy design in this paper,further analyzing the role of the smart toy in children’s education and exploring the connection between the “play” and the “learning”.Three to six years old is the “golden period” and the “critical period” for children’s growth,which has a decisive influence on the formation of children’s personality,learning ability and thinking ability.Thus,we perform research on this time period.First,we expound the concept,the characteristics of the preschool education and its relationship with the game.Then,we conduct user analysis for preschool children,collect and summarize the psychological and behavioral characteristics of children in the process of play,and further explore the specific needs of preschool children for smart toy design,game design and color selection.After that,we comb and analyze the concept,the design characteristics,the classification,the development and the trend of preschool children’s smart toy.On this basis,we deeply analyze the educational function of the smart toy,and fundamentally study the educational value of the smart toy for preschool children.We find that the key to the design of a school-age educational smart toy is to meet the children’s needs for fun,structural play ability,and styling.Therefore,we propose the design principles and the design methods of the smart toy based on the educational function.At last,we choose the “PAW Patrol”,a preschool education cartoon,as the creative source of the smart toy design in this paper,constructing the smart toy design process and completing the smart toy design practice based on the educational function.In this paper,we study the design of the smart toy from the perspective of the preschool education,discussing the relationship among the smart toy,the preschool children,and the education.Further,we propose the principles and methods of the smart toy design based on the educational function.The research results provide a theoretical and practical reference for the preschool education theory and the smart toy design,aiming to provide new ideas for the development of China’s toy industry.
