Study And Practice Of Lacquer Art In Modern Stationery

Chinese traditional lacquering technology has been used as a decoration technique for luxury utensils because of its strong decorative effect.The lacquering technology is sometimes used in tablewares,furniture,or jewelry,making them more attractive visually.At present,with the rapid development of the Chinese economy,traditional culture including handicraft is gradually paid attention to and developed.According to the market demand,a group of designers has been trying to employ the traditional crafts in designs of various modern products.Although compared with products using other crafts,modern lacquering products are less known for most people in modern times,the lacquering technology is undeniably more and more applied in some kinds of products and favored by some customers.This subject is focused on the research of lacquering technology’s application in scholar wares,based on the market knowledge and questionaire survey.According to the research,many scholar wares are still in old styles.However,the customers are trending younger,and their aesthetic habits are changing.In addition,the middle-aged people have expressed their aesthetic demands for scholar wares.Therefore,the research and design practice are conducted on this subject.In Chapter 1,the author first sorts out the techniques of Xiu(coating with lacquer)and aesthetic characteristics of lacquering technology by the way of documentation,and then analyses some lacquering product cases to explore suitable Xiu techniques and design methods which can be mass produced and meet the aesthetic demands of current people.In Chapter 2,the author analyses the direction of design practice of scholar wares and their lacquering from a cultural perspective.It combines the documentation,existing excellent designs,questionaire survey and other methods to discuss the concept,historical development,varieties,and culture connotation of scholar wares as well as people’s function and aesthetic demands for them in modern times.In Chapter 3,based on the major categories in previous chapters,the author conducts the specific design and production,records the ideas and process of design,and summarizes experience and methods during the practice.
