Chinese economy is shifting from a high-speed growth phase to a high-quality development phase, and high-quality development requires corresponding indicators, standards and performance evaluation systems.Ecological Well-being Performance(EP),which is a sustainable development indicator incorporating social, economic and ecological integration, reflects the quality of economic development from a resourceoriented and environmental perspective. The improvement of EP has important practical significance for promoting high-quality development. The 31 provinces(municipalities and autonomous regions)from 2005 to 2016 were taken as research object.By integrating the research methods of economics, management and geography, the provincial EP was evaluated and the spatial pattern of EP was analyzed. The results showed that:(1)the EP basically manifested the growth trend of “higher in the east, middle in the central and lower in the west”;(2)the improvement of EP stemmed from the “two-way optimization”,rather than the input of ecological consumption or the output of well-being level;(3)there was a sustainable economic development model of “low consumption input and high economic output” between ecological consumption and economic growth, but this model had a time lag;and(4)the EP showed a strong spatial autocorrelation at the national level, and at the regional level, the EP had significant distribution characteristics of aggregation with high and with low value. In view of that, policy recommendations were put forward to promote high-quality development from four aspects. The innovations of this paper lie in that Panel Vector Autoregression(PVAR)was applied to analyze two decomposition indicators of EP,and that Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis(ESDA)was adopted to study the spatial pattern of EP.
