In offshore marine ecosystems,eelgrass beds,coral reefs and mangroves are called three typical ecosystems.They have important ecological functions and play an important role in carbon sequestration,water purification,levee mitigation and the structure of marine food chain.In Weihai,Shandong Province,another important use of eelgrass is to build "seagrass houses".Seagrass house is a kind of traditional dwelling house with the characteristics of stone foundation and wall and eelgrass roof.Their characteristics are "warm winter and cool summer,not decaying,sound insulation and flame retardant,chic and beautiful".However,seagrass houses have been repeatedly impacted in the development of modernization.It needs special attention and study that how to combine eelgrass with modern building materials,expand its application scope and promote the development and application of eelgrass into a virtuous circle.This study focused on the function of eelgrass and eelgrass concrete composite as basic building materials,including strength,heat preservation and sound absorption properties,and carried out experimental research.Firstly,the physical and chemical properties and mechanical properties of eelgrass and eelgrass concrete composites were tested by universal testing machine.The density,strength,modulus,and elongation of eelgrass and the compressive strength of eelgrass concrete with different mixing ratios were obtained.The results show that the compressive strength of eelgrass concrete is much lower than that of concrete,which indicates that eelgrass concrete composite material is not suitable for bearing members.Then,the thermal conductivity of eelgrass concrete is measured by laser flash method.It is found that the thermal conductivity of eelgrass concrete composite material is generally lower than that of concrete.This result proves that eelgrass has good thermal insulation function.So eelgrass concrete composite material can be used as building thermal insulation material.Finally,the sound absorption performance of eelgrass concrete composite materials was evaluated by using sound pressure gradient.The test results show that eelgrass concrete has remarkable absorption effect on medium and low frequency sound.Therefore,eelgrass concrete composites can be used as building sound absorption materials.This is the first study on the basic functions of eelgrass concrete building composites.The preliminary results show that eelgrass concrete composite material can be used as building functional material for thermal insulation,noisereduction and shock reduction.
