Comparative Advantages And Competitiveness Of Poland’s Export Of Metals And Metal Products To China

Since the 20 th century,Polish export has been growing significantly,and its global rankings have also greatly improved.Since Poland and China established diplomatic relations,the two countries have maintained good economic and trade cooperation relations.The specific manifestations are: the scale and growth rate of the two countries in the field of trade in goods which have been continuously rising,the export structure has been optimized,and the trade development is closely linked.After more than 10 years of development,Poland’s comparative advantage in exports of metals and metal products to China has been improved to a significant extent;at the same time,the trade in goods between Poland and China has continued to widen and deepen.The main problem of Polish export to China is the existing large trade deficit,that is also why this study might shed better light on the current trade tendencies and the results might contribute to the enhanced export abilities to China.Within different time periods,the structure of Polish export to China has been adjusted and optimized.The comparative advantage of Polish products changes with the adjustment of the country’s industrial structure,Poland’s international competition in exporting metals has become increasingly fierce;China’s abundant resource endowments have provided new ideas and development opportunities for the further development of Poland-China economic and trade relations.Firstly,the foundations of the research are based on the theory of export comparative advantage and competitiveness,depiction of bilateral trade structure with the focus on the analysis of Poland’s metals and metal products export to China.Consequently,using the 2010-2017 trade data between Poland and China,the international export competitiveness and comparative advantage of Polish metals and metal products export to the Chinese market have been analyzed.To achieve accurate results,this research applied the revealed comparative advantage index,the regional revealed comparative advantage index,the intraindustry trade index,and the trade intensity index.The study has showed that out of a few export products it is copper and copper products which reached a relatively high export advantage and then became highly competitive products.The analysis has also showed that the intra industry trade after having a declining tendency for many years,finally 2016 was on the increase.Whereas the intensity of both import and export between Poland and China remains on a very stable level,the intensity of import from China outgrows the export even 10 times.
