China has boosted its investment on hydraulic projects in recent years with many major projects initiated.Compared with other infrastructure, hydraulic structures are characterized by its large scale and huge amount of concrete, steel and other material consumption, together with lots of energy input and pollutes output, which would create adverse impact on the environment. As a result,large-scale hydraulic engineering should take into account the environmental impact generated during the construction, and put it as an extra criterion besides the safety and economy in the scheme selection in the design process. This dissertation has conducted a quantitative assessment on the environmental impact on a typical hydraulic projects on the basis of the CML mid-point model.Major work includes the following,1.An environmental impact assessment model applicable to hydraulic engineering was established based on the CML mid-point model. Also, the inventory analysis was based on the quota which attributes the machine-based and material-based environmental impact to all sub-projects.2.Take a typical water diversion project as an example, the model was applied to assess the project on six impact categories,i.e.the non-living resource consumption, global warming potential, human toxicity, acidification, photochemistry and eutrophication,a top-down trace was conducted to identify the sub-projects that have significant environmental impacts.3.Based on the characteristics of the project and the identified key procedures, some mitigation suggestions were made by considering alternatives in those procedures.
