Objective:This study intended to investigate patients’ vertigo severity in otogenic Vertigo and the fall risk, and to explore the beneficial effects of the Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy(VRT)combined with meditation.Methods:.120 inpatients with otogenic vertigo were recruited at an Atertiary hosiptal in Jinan from October 2015 to September 2017.Participants were assigned to the intervention group(60 patients)and the control group(60 patients)by the sequence of hospitalization.Patients in the intervention group received VRT combined with mediation and anti-vertigo drugs treatment and nursing;while patients in the control group received anti-vertigo drugs treatment and nursing. The social-demographic data and the clinical data of patients were collected by checking the medical records and inquiring the patient.Questionnaires assessing dizziness handicap(DHI),fall risk(MFS),and falls-efficacy(MFES)were administered before intervention(T1)and lweek(T2),4weeks(T3),3months(T4)after intervention. The Statistic Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS version 19.0)was used for analyses, including descriptive statics,t-test,one-way analyses of variance(ANOVAs),and Repeated ANOVAs.Results:1.Totally,81 patients(67.5%)completed the study,41 of them(68.3%)were from the control group and 40 patients(66.7%)were from the intervention group.2.At T1,the total score of DHI was 60.17±10.90;6.2%patients had minimum dizziness handicap,51.9%moderate dizziness handicap, and 41.9%severe dizziness handicap; The three dimensional score of physical, emotion, and function were 20.41 ±0.88,18.44±4.34 and 21.30±4.83,respectively.The total score of MFS was 58.51 ±10.29,and the fall risk ratio was 91.3%(74 patients); The total score of MFES was 64.23±7.73.Moreover,the more serious the dizziness handicap was,the higher fall risk was.3.No differences in scores of DHI、the three dimensiona、MFS and MFES were detected at T1 between groups(all P>0.05).However,scores assessed at T2 to T4 showed that scores of DHI and MFS in the intervention group were significantly lower than those of the control group, scores of MFES in the intervention group were significantly higher than those of control the group,respectively(allP<0.05).4.Score of DHI、the three dimensiona、MFS and MFES significantly decreased in the intervention group from T2 to T4(P<0.05).There was an irregular decrease trend of the score of DHI and MFS in the control group from T2 to T4,but both scores were lower than that at T1(P<0.05).There was an irregular increase trend of the score of MFES in the control group from T2 to T4,but both scores were higher than that at T1(P<0.05).5.A main effect of intervention(P<0.05)and an interactive effect of time and intervention(P<0.05)were observed in the model of DHI、the three dimensiona、MFS and MFES using repeated ANOVAS.Conclusions:1.Patients with otogenic vertigo had more severe the dizziness handicap, higher fall risk and lower fall efficiency.2.Individualization Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy(VRT)combined with meditation had an obvious effect in improving vertigo and decreasing the fall risk for patients with otogenic vertigo.
