Correlation Between Self-efficacy,Emotional Intelligence And Career Maturity Of Nursing Students

Objectives To learn the status of nursing undergraduate interns’ self-efficacy,emotional intelligence and career maturity;clarify differences of nursing undergraduate interns’ self-efficacy,emotional intelligence and career maturity in general demographic characteristics;analyze correlation among undergraduate nurse students’self-efficacy,emotional intelligence and career maturity so as to provide the scientific theoretical basis for undergraduate nurse students’ career maturity.Methods This research is a non-experimental correlation research,which adopts the General Situation Questionnaire,Career Maturity Inventory,General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES)and Emotional Intelligence Scale(EIS)as research tools;convenience sampling as the research method;and undergraduate nurse students involving in clinical practice in Jilin municipal grade-3 first-class hospitals as research objects.In total,240 questionnaires are delivered,of which 236 are recovered as valid ones.All the data obtained through the questionnaire survey are statistically analyzed and processed using the SPSS 19.0 statistical software package.The frequency,percentage,mean and so on are employed to describe general demographic characteristics of undergraduate student nurses.The mean,standard deviation and percentage are used to describe the status of student nurses’ career maturity,self-efficacy and emotional intelligence.The t-test and one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA)are adopted to analyze differences of nurse students’ career maturity in general demographic characteristics.Last but not least,the Pearson correlation coefficient is used to explore the mutual correlation among self-efficacy,emotional intelligence and career maturity.Results(1)Undergraduate student nurses score(25.2±7.11)points in self-efficacy,which are at a medium level.It is found out that females born in urban areas,being the only child in a family,having been student cadres at school,once participating in part-time jobs and receiving relevant career education outperform in career maturity.(2)Scores of undergraduate student nurses total at(116.51±18.39)points,which are also at a medium level.Results show that student nurses born in rural areas,not being the only child in a family,willing to engage in nursing after graduation,and once receiving relevant career education outperform in emotional intelligence.(3)Undergraduate student nurses score(107.47±20.88)points in total,which are also at a medium level.Those born in urban areas,being the only child in a moderately better-off family,once participating in part-time jobs,willing to engage in nursing after graduation,optimistic about development prospects of the nursing industry,and once receiving relevant career education outperform in career maturity.(4)Scores of vocational maturity and scores of self-efficacy are significantly and positively correlated.Their correlation coefficient is 0.351,P<0.01.The significantly positive correlation is also observed between scores of career maturity and scores of emotional intelligence with their correlation coefficient being 0.348,P<0.01.Likewise,scores of emotional intelligence and scores of self-efficacy are significantly and positively correlated.Their correlation coefficient is 0.173,P<0.01.Conclusions:(1)The self-efficacy of undergraduate nursing students is at a moderate level.Among them,the sex is the girl,the birthplace is the city,the only child in the home,the student cadre in the school,once took part in the part-time job,and the student nurse who has received the related vocational education has a better career maturity.(2)The emotional intelligence of undergraduate nursing students is at a moderate level.Among them,they are rural,and they are not only children in the family.They have served as student cadres at school.At present,the family economic situation is poor.After graduation,they will be willing to put into nursing work.(3)The career maturity of undergraduate nursing students is at a moderate level.Among them,they are the city,the only child is the only child in the home,the family economy is well off,and the part-time work has been taken.After graduation,it is willing to invest in the nursing work,and is optimistic about the prospects of the development of the nursing career.The professional maturity of the intern nurse who has received the related vocational education is better.(4)The score of self-efficacy and emotional intelligence of undergraduate nursing students is higher,and the score of career maturity is also higher.There was a significant positive correlation between self efficacy,emotional intelligence and career maturity of undergraduate nursing students.
