The Association Between Migraine And Patent Foramen Ovale And Its Research Progress Of Treatment

Background: Patent foramen ovale(PFO)is a common type of atrial septal defect,which is endocardial cushions anomalies caused by congentical heart disease.PFO is widely neglected because of the fact that in most cases PFO only causes mild decline in activity endurance,moreover there is no significant left-to-right shunt in cardiac hemodynamics.As a result,PFO is not widely and deeply reseached.But now,more and more studies have shown that the risk of migraine in patients with patent foramen ovale is higher than that in normal subjects,and PFO intervention is expected to improve the symptoms of migraine.Objective: To provide a better reference for the clinical treatment of migraine headache in patients with patent foramen ovale by summarizing the pathogenesis of migraine and the effect of transcatheter patent foramen ovale closure in the treatment of migraine.Methods:By retrieve the key words like: The patent foramen ovale or PFO,migraine,PFO occlusion,paradoxical embolism,venous factors and vasoactive substances to find out the related research on patent foramen ovale in the pathogenesis of migraine,and provide a summary of the evaluation of the clinical application of transcatheter closure of PFO on treating migraine.Results and conclusion: There are a lot of related literature that describe the relationship between PFO and migraine.By analyzing and comprehensiving these documents,we know that the related mechanism between the two may be paradoxical embolism,may be the vein factor theory,may be the genetic theory,may also be a unilateral partial side defect theory,and the other two attract more attention,even so,the exact mechanism still needs a large number of experimental verification.The therapy of the PFO includes surgical operation,transcatheter closure and drugs.By a large number of clinical trials,the application of transcatheter closure of PFO can significantly improve the symptoms of patients with migraine,and is considered as a primary treatment to the patients of patent foramen ovale associated with migraine.
