ObjectiveIn order to provide an important reference for relevant physical activity researches among patients with chronic kidney disease,we do the research on the reliability and validity of the modified total energy expenditure questionnaire and explore the correlation between different traditional Chinese medicine syndrome types and physical activity levels.MethodsFrom January 2017 to March 2018,patients with chronic kidney disease from Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine were enrolled. With no renal replacement therapies, they signed the medical informed consent, completed a case report form, and received basic physical fitness measurements on the first day of enrollment. Then they filled in the TEEQ for the first time and got an initialized Actigraph GT3X+ accelerometer.Patients were told to begin to wear this device on the right waist when they woke up on the next day. Before going to bed at night, the accelerometer was taken off. Therefore, the above steps were repeated until the 10 th day of the study cycle.Last, the patients went back to the hospital on the 14 th day of the study cycle in order to return the accelerometer and to fill in the TEEQ for the second time.We used the test-retest reliability method to calculate the intra-class correlation coefficient.Besides,we used the average daily energy consumption(kcal)of the accelerometer as the standard and the average energy consumption(kcal)of the TEEQ as a parameter.Pearson correlation analysis was used to calculate the criterion-related validity. Finally, nonparametric tests were used to assess the correlation between different TCM syndrome types and physical activity levels.ResultsFor the TEEQ reliability(n=83),the intra-class correlation coefficient of A to H activity type was 0.733/ 0.619/ 0.829/ 0.679/ 0.590/ 0.730/ 0.841/ 0.337 respectively. The P values were all less than 0.05,which were statistically significant, indicating that the TEEQ enjoys a nice reliability. The intra-class correlation coefficient of I activity was 0.300 and the P value was 0.054> 0.05,indicating that the reliability was low for this type of activity. The subgroup analysis suggested that the TEEQ's reliability performed better in middle age subgroup, male subgroup, and working/student subgroup. For the TEEQ validity(n=85),the Pearson coefficient was 0.288 and the P value was 0.007?0.05,indicating that the validity was acceptable.Subgroup analysis suggested that TEEQ's validity performed relatively better in middle age subgroup/ female subgroup. In traditional Chinese medicine,non-parametric tests was used, and the ? value was 5.564 and the P value was 0.135>0.05,indicating that there was no significant difference in the level of physical activity among different traditional Chinese medicine syndrome subgroups.ConclusionThe results of this study showed that the modified TEEQ had nice reliability, and the validity was acceptable. In traditional Chinese medicine, patients with different TCM syndromes had similar levels of daily physical activities.
