Objective PPIs are recognized as the most effective agents for the treatment of acid-related diseases at present time, also is used mostly as an common medicines in elderly. In recent years, the problem of PPIs overuse has become more and more prominent and has received close attention. The purpose of this study was to understand the influence of aging on intestinal flora of elderly patients and long-term use of PPIs on intestinal flora of elderly patients with GERD.Effects of combination bifidobacterium therapy on intestinal flora, abdominal symptoms and subjective feelings of elderly GERD patients who take PPIs for a long time. Methods Forty-three elderly patients with GERD who had been taking PPIs for a long time were selected as the study group.Meanwhile,36 elderly patients were selected as the control group. The DNA of fecal target flora was detected in two groups, the effect of intestinal flora in elderly patients with aging and long-term use of PPIs were analyzed. The 43 cases of study group were randomly divided into the treatment and observation groups according to random number table, respectively give oral PPIs joint bifidobacteria and continue to oral PPIs 1 month. To analysis the effect of bifidobacterium on intestinal flora, abdominal symptoms and subjective feeling of elderly patients with long-term use of PPIs.Results The number of intestinal bifidobacteria and lactobacillus decreased with age in elderly patients aged 60-69,70-79 and over 80 years old(p < 0.05).Compared with the control group, the number of bifidobacterium and lactobacillus in the stool of the study group were decreased significantly(p < 0.05),and the number of staphylococcus aureus were increased significantly(p < 0.05).There was no significant difference between the two groups of enterobacteria, enterococcus, escherichia coli and clostridium perfringens.Compared with the observation group, the number of bifidobacterium and lactobacillus in the treatment group were significantly increased(p < 0.05),and the number of escherichia coli and staphylococcus aureus were decreased significantly(p < 0.05).There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups of enterobacterium, enterococcus, and clostridium perfringens. In addition, the proportion of symptoms and subjective feelings of abdominal distension, constipation, dry stools and fecal exertion in the elderly patients in the treatment group was significantly lower than that before the treatment, and the difference was statistically significant(p < 0.05).Conclusion Aging changes and long-term PPIs can lead to intestinal flora disorder in elderly patients.and the combined bifidobacterium can correct the imbalance of intestinal flora and improve the abdominal symptoms and subjective feelings of patients caused by PPIs.
