| ObjectivesTo understand the prevalence of sleep problems among preschool children in Huangshan,and to analyze the association between sleep problems and nutritional status and behavior problems.MethodsA total of 2395 preschool children were selected in Huangshan.A questionnaire was completed by preschool children’s parents or the primary caregiver,including the preschool children’s demographics,sleeping problems,behaviour problems,and physical growth test and hemoglobin detection.ResultsApproximately 89.0% of preschool children’s scored above the cut-off for total Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire(CSHQ)score.The results shown that the prevalence of preschool children’s had a higher score than cut-off for the subscale of bedtime resistance and sleep onset delay among youger age group,and had a higher score than cut-off for the subscale of sleeping duration and daytime sleepiness among older(P<0.05).Additionally,the result also indicated that a higher prevalence of low body weight in preschool children who with daytime sleepiness,and a higher prevalence of nutritional anemia in those who had sleep duration and daytime sleepiness(P<0.05).Except for night waking,all other subscale of CSHQ had shown that preschool students with sleeping problems had higher prevalence of internalizing/externalizing problems and total behaviour problems than those who without sleeping problems(P<0.05).ConclusionsPreschool children’s sleep problems are extremely common phenomenon,and it is related to children’s nutritional status,anemia and behaviour problems. |
