Discussion Of The Rural Medical And Health System In People’s Daily(1968-1976)

"Put the focus of medical and health work in the countryside" is an important directive made by Mao Zedong on June 26,1965(known as the "June 26" directive in history).As one of the most authoritative party newspapers in China the People’s Daily has devoted nearly eight years since December 8,1968,to a discussion column calling on the whole nation to discuss various issues concerning the rural medical and health system.From 1968 to 1976,a total of 107 issues of discussion columns on rural medical and health system were published,including 577 pieces of news works,including news,newsletters,investigation reports,news comments and other news genres.The series of discussions on the rural medical and health system are mainly in the third edition,with the length of 500 to 1000 words.Barefoot doctors,members of the revolutionary committee of the commune,soldiers,farmers,workers,students,as well as newspaper reporters and correspondents all participated in the discussion.As a direct practitioner of rural medical and health undertakings,barefoot doctors write as many articles or give Suggestions in discussion columns as newspaper reporters and correspondents,which is impossible to happen at this stage.Therefore,this paper believes that the discussion column to the newspaper mass movement to promote the rural medical and health field mass movement.This paper believes that discussion column,in the form of mobilizing the masses to participate in the running of the newspaper,takes the mass activities as the center of its content,deeply combines the newspaper reporters and correspondents with the masses,and reports in plain and understandable language,which well practices the mass line of news.The series reflects the good interaction between the masses and the official media at that time,demonstrates the value orientation of the newspaper’s emphasis on fairness,and embodies the unity of the party spirit and the people’s spirit.These are all worthy of learning for the contemporary news industry.The key points of this study are as follows:firstly,the characteristics of the series of discussions are summarized and sorted out through content analysis method;secondly,the mass line of newspapers and the unity of party spirit and people spirit in news practice are explored through the analysis of the four aspects of this discussion.The essence of the mass line of the newspaper is to serve and center on the people.If the newspaper is not people-centered and does not practice the mass line,then no matter whether its value orientation seems fair and just it cannot be regarded as a marxist view of journalism.This paper holds that the series of discussions on the rural medical and health system conducted by People’s Daily from 1968 to 1976 well practiced the mass line of news,which is an in-depth practice of marxist news view in the newspaper.
