| Objective: In palliative treatment of patients with advanced cancer,music therapy affects their feelings and quality of life through its unique mechanism.In this study,a prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted to investigate the impact of music therapy on the quality of life,psychological status and beliefs of patients with advanced gastric cancer.Meanwhile,to explore a music therapy model that was suitable for Chinese cancer patients.Methods:1.From June 2018 to December 2018,60 advanced gastric cancer patients who were willing to participate in music-assisted treatment at Department of medical oncology,Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University,were selected.All patients were equally divided into treatment group or control group randomized.2.European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer core quality of life questionnaire(EORTC QLQ-C30),Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale(GAD-7),Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)and Herth Hope Scale were used to assess patients’ quality of life and mentality before and after music therapy.After comprehensive evaluation,the treatment group received both basic treatment,as chemotherapy and hospital care,and received 60-90 minutes of group music therapy every 3 weeks.The control group only received chemotherapy and hospital care.After 6 weeks treatment,the quality of life and psychological status of 60 patients were evaluated again by the assessment scales above.Statistical methods were used to compare the scores of the two groups before and after treatment.Results:1.The effects of music therapy on patients’ quality of lifeIn the treatment group,one patient withdrew from the study because of his deteriorating condition.There were 59 effective patients and 118 questionnaires.There were no statistical differences in age,sex,marriage,education,income,fee,music hobby and recognition of music therapy between the two groups.There was no significant difference in QLQ-C30 score between the two groups before music therapy.After music therapy,the QLQ-C30 score of the treatment group was lower than that of the control group(t=-2.095,P=0.041).2.The effects of music therapy on anxiety and sleep quality of patientsThere were no significant differences in the results of GAD-7 anxiety scale and PSQI scale between the two groups before music therapy.After music therapy,the results of GAD-7 in the treatment group were significantly different from those in the control group(χ2=4.881,P=0.027).There were no clear statistical differences in PSQI scale.However,the number of sleep disorders in the two groups were reduced compared with that before treatment,and there was a statistical difference in the number of sleep disorders before and after the treatment group(χ2=8.333,P=0.006).3.The impact of music therapy on patients’ life hopesThere were no significant differences in Herth Hope Scale between the two groups before music therapy.After music therapy,the Herth scale in the treatment group was significantly different from that in the control group(χ2 = 5.350,P = 0.021).Conclusions:1.Consistent with previous research conclusions,music therapy can improve the quality of life of patients with advanced gastric cancer and improve their symptoms.2.Music therapy can relieve patients’ anxiety.The quality of sleep can be improved through comprehensive treatment or combined with music therapy.3.Music therapy can improve the level of subjective hope for life in patients with advanced gastric cancer,and help patients cope with life difficulties better. |
