Since 2000,China has officially entered the ranks of an aging country. The acceleration of the population aging process, the health problems of the aging population and its socio-economic impact have attracted increasing attention from the government and society. It is an urgent matter in today’s society to explore the factors that affect the health of the elderly in China and improve the quality of life of the elderly. This dissertation draws on the regression models commonly used in statistics—the logistic regression model and the mixed effect model to study the factors affecting the cognitive ability, daily activity ability, and self-evaluation of physical health of the elderly. At the same time, with the help of a common algorithm in machine learning,Random Forest(RF),the importance indicators affecting the cognitive ability, daily activities and self-evaluation of the elderly are further verified. The paper first cleans the original data, deletes the outliers, fills in missing values, and invalidates the features. Then, the feature variables are re-selected in combination with logistic regression, mixed effect models, and random forest algorithms. In the empirical stage,a logistic regression model was established based on the longitudinal tracking data of the 2008 China,Senior Citizens’ Health and Longevity Influencing Factors(CLHLS)project in 2008,2011 and 2014.The effect model and the random forest model are compared. The empirical results show that the statistical results of several models and methods are compared and found that gender, age, place of birth, marital status, family structure, eating habits, living habits, community service and social security have an impact on the health of the elderly. And under the same conditions, the cognitive ability and self-evaluation of the male population are better than the female senior population. In addition, elderly people who are widowed or living alone are in poor health status compared to elderly people who are married and cohabiting or living with their families.Good eating habits, optimistic mood, and good community service are all important factors influencing the health and daily activities of the elderly.
