| Background:Chronic urticaria is a widespread allergy in South Asian region due to the polluted environment and some other genetic and environmental reasons in which a person suffers from severe itching and wheal shape marks on their body.To cure this disease first generation antihistamines were used since 1980.Because they were highly sedative drugs and their side effects were too high,so scientists introduced second generation low sedative antihistamines include olopatadine and fexofenadine. These antihistamines have ability to block the excretion of histamine chemical。Objective:This research was conducted to describe the chronic urticaria disorder and two antihistamines olopatadine and fexofenadine and to explore the efficacy and side effects of these two antihistamines during the treatment.Method:The target population for this study was the patients who reported to the Dermatology department and were clinically diagnosed with chronic Urticaria.A total of 90 patients diagnosed with chronic urticaria were included in this study, where those 90 patients were then divided into two main groups on the basis of treatment given.Result:In our study we found that olopatadine works faster than the other antihistamine, fexofenadine. We used t-test,ANOVA test and chi square to find and compare the results of two antihistamines(olopatadine and fexofenadine). The efficacy rate of olopatadine is higher than the fexofenadine but both treatments have some negative consequences too.In our research we observed that some patient’s complaint about the constipation by using the antihistamines(olopatadine and fexofenadine)during their chronic urticaria treatmentConclusion:Finally our research concluded that olopatadine antihistamine is more effective to manage and cure the disease of chronic urticaria as compared to fexofenadine.Although some patients were cured from fexofenadine but its efficacy is slow. All the antihistamines medicines have side effects, but we recommend olopatadine to cure the hives patients without compromising their health... |
