ObejectivesTo investigate the correlation of BMI and clinical biological characteristics of breast cancer including pathology types, molecular subtypes, histological grading, primary tumor size,Histopathologic HE staining and immunohistochemical results, lymph nodes metasta-sis and so on.Methods143 patients, who were diagnosed with breast cancer by pathological examination, are collected and filtered out from June 2013 to December 2015 in the affiliated hospital for the retrospective study.Calculate body mass index(kg/m~2)of the patients by using the pre-operative height(m),weight(kg).According to BMI,the patients were divided into four groups including the low weight, the normal weight, the overweight and obese. After doing statistics and reviewing tumor sizes, lymph node metastasis, histological grades, vascular tumor emboli, immunohistochemical results, molecular subtypes of each group, the data is analyzed by SPSS 17.0 software for statistical analysis.Results143 patients with breast cancer are analyzed by the study, including 64 premeno-pausal patients and 79 postmenopausal patients. The average age is 53.The patients are stratified by the age of 50,and it turns out that the overall level of BMI patients under the age of 50 was significantly lower than patients over 50 years old(P=0.011).The difference in the onset age among all the groups is significant, and the onset age of patients with high BMIs was generally higher than that of the low BMIs(P=0.01).Among the patients of breast cancer, tumor diameters of the high BMIs are greater than that of the low BMIs.BMI and the tumor diameters are positively correlated regardless of their menopausal status. The proportion of lymph nodes metastasis in the high BMIs is higher than that of low BMIs,but there is no clear correlation. The proportion of histological grade I in the low BMIs is greater than that of patients with high BMIs,but there is no clear correlation too.Among the pre-menopausal patients, the proposition of tumor emboli in the low weights is significantly bigger than that of other groups, and the difference is statistically significant.Among the postmenopausal patients, there is no significant difference in vascular tumor emboli(P=0.620).No matter the menopausal status, the expressions of ER,HER-2,Ki-67 of each BMI group are not significantly different. The expression of PR in the high BMIs among the postmenopausal patients is significantly stronger than that of the low BMIs,which has statistical significance(P=0.010).The expression of CK5/6 in the high BMIs is significantly lower than that of the low BMIs,which has statistical significance(P=0.037),there is significant difference in postmenopausal patients(P=0.024),while no statistical difference in the premenopausal patients(P=0.391).Conclusions(1)There is a correlation between the diameter of the primary tumor and BMI,and no matter the menopausal status, the higher BMI,the larger diameter. The proportion of vascular tumor emboli among the groups has no obvious statistical significance.(2)There is no significant correlation between BMI and axillary lymph nodes metasta-sis,histological grading.(3)There is a correlation between BMI and the expression of PR in postmenopausal patients, the higher BMI,the stronger expression, while there is no significant correlation between PR expression and BMI in premenopausal patients.(4)There is a negative correlation between BMI and the expression of HER-2 in postmenopausal patients.(5)The difference in the expression of CK5/6 among the groups is statistically significant. The proposition of expression in the low BMIs is higher than that of the high BMIs,which is also found in the postmenopausal patients, while the expression of CK5/6in premenopausal patients is not significantly different.(6)There are more Luminal A patients in the low weight group of breast cancer patients. There are more Luminal B in the normal weight, overweight and obese groups,no matter the menopausal status.
