Objective:To summarize the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with heterotopic gastric mucosa(HGMUE)in the upper esophagus and analyze its possible risk factors. Methods: The patients who improved painless gastroscopy in Xinjiang Autonomous Region People's Hospital from September 2018 to October 2019 were collected retrospectively.HGMUE patients were included in the case group(n=166).patients whose gastroscopy did not indicate that heterotopic gastric mucosa were included in the control group(n=169).The endoscopic manifestations and clinical characteristics of heterotopic gastric mucosa in the case group were recorded. The results of gastroscopy, pathological data and general information were statistically analyzed to explore HGMUE related risk factors. Results: The detection rate of HGMUE in this study was 1.4%,78.3%of patients had only single lesion,16.9% had 2 lesions, and 4.8% reported three or more lesions. The majority of cases were between 1-5 mm in size, accounting for 78.6% of the case group.HGMUE focal location in the posterior wall of the esophagus reached 43.98%.23.5%(39/166)of patients in the case group showed different esophageal and extraesophageal symptoms.Enteroepithelial metaplasiawas found in 2 HGMUE patients. There was no significant difference in age, sex, smoking history,PPI administration history and clinical symptoms between the case group and the control group. The results of univariate analysis showed statistically significant differences in alcohol consumption(P=0.018),combined Barrett esophagus(P=0.001)or combined reflux esophagitis(P=0.001)between the two groups.Unconditional multivariate Logistic regression analysis suggested that alcohol consumption, combined Barrett esophagus or reflux esophagitis were all HGMUE independent risk factors. Conclusions: Drinking alcohol, combined Barrett esophagus or reflux esophagitis will increase the risk of HGMUE.
