Objective: To compile two scales of nurses’ hospice knowledge and behavior that is in line with Chinese cultural background and have good reliability and validity.Scales were also used to understand the hospice knowledge and behavior level of nurses in tumor ward,ICU and hospice care specialist ward of 3-A grade hospitals in Shenyang city and to explore the influencing factors. Methods: In this study,a combination of quantitative and qualitative research method was used to compile and apply nurses’ hospice knowledge and behavior scales.1.Based on the review of literature, books and guidelines, this study conducted semi-structured interviews with tumor wards, hospice care specialist ward and palliative care 19 nurses in a 3-A hospital in shenyang, adjusted the item pool according to the interview results, and formed the first round of Delphi expert letter questionnaire.Sixteen experts who have been engaged in palliative care, nursing management, clinical nursing and nursing education for a long time were invited to evaluate the importance and contents of the items in the scales,so as to form the scale of nurses’ hospice knowledge and behavior to be tested.A preliminary survey was conducted on 370 nurses in the tumor ward,ICU and hospice care specialist ward of3-A hospitals in shenyang city by using the waiting scale. The critical ratio method, correlation coefficient method and factor analysis method were used to further screen the results of the preliminary survey.Construct validity and content validity were used to test the validity of the scale. The reliability of the scale was tested by internal consistency reliability and split-half reliability, and finally a formal scale of nurses’ hospice knowledge and behavior was formed.2.General information questionnaire are formed by literature review, using general information questionnaire and the nurses’ hospice care knowledge and behavior scales to investigate 150 nurses of 3-A hospitals in shenyang tumor ward,ICU and hospice care specialist ward, using the mean ± standard deviation, composition to describe the nurses’ hospice care knowledge and behavior status quo, using t test, analysis of variance, correlation analysis and multivariate linear regression analysis to analyze influencing factors of nurses’ hospice care knowledgeand behavior. Results: 1.This study constructed the nurses’ hospice care knowledge and behavior scale, knowledge scale contains seven dimensions,34 items, respectively overview(3items),comfortable care(8 items),symptom care(11 items),terminal communication and psychological care(5 items),spiritual care(3 items),ethical aspect(2 items),family care(2 items). The behavior scale contains 6 dimensions and 37 items, including comfort care(8 items),symptom care(8 items),terminal communication and psychological care(10 items),spiritual care(3 items),ethical aspect(6 items)and family care(2 items).Cronbach’s a coefficient of knowledge scale is 0.947,the split-half reliability is 0.792,and S-CVI is 0.92.The Cronbach’s a coefficient of the behavior scale was 0.968,the split-half reliability was 0.864,and the S-CVI was0.98.2.Analysis results of the status and influencing factors of the nurses’ hospice knowledge and behavior of 3-A grade hospitals in Shenyang tumor ward,ICU and hospice care specialist ward nurses: 3-A grade hospitals in Shenyang tumor ward,ICU and hospice care specialist ward nurses hospice care knowledge was 23.81 ±3.92.The dimension with the highest score in the knowledge scale was symptomatic nursing, and the dimension with the lowest score was hospice communication and psychological nursing. The total score of the behavior scale was 138.67 ± 24.55.The dimension with the highest score in the behavior scale was symptomatic care, and the dimension with the lowest score was spiritual care.Nurses’ knowledge of hospice care was positively correlated with their behavior scores, with a correlation coefficient of 0.313(P<0.01).Single factor analysis results show that nurses’ gender, department, position, working years, income and previous education of hospice care were different, and their knowledge level of hospice care was different, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Nurses of different genders, departments, previous nursing experience of seriously ill patients at home, and previous education of hospice care were different, and their scores of hospice care behavior were different, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The results of multi-factor analysis showed that gender, two dummy variables in the department and previous nursing education in hospice nursing entered the multiple linear regression equationof nurses’ hospice nursing knowledge(P<0.05).The multiple linear regression equation(P<0.05)of nurses’ hospice nursing behavior was derived from the previous nursing experience of seriously ill patients at home and previous hospice nursing education(P<0.05).Conclusion: 1.In this study, two scales of nurses’ hospice knowledge and behavior was developed in strict accordance with the principle of scale compilation, which has good reliability and validity and can be applied to evaluate nurses’ hospice knowledge and behavior level in clinical practice.2.The knowledge and behavior level of nurses in tumor ward,ICU and palliative care specialty ward of 3-A grade hospitals in Shenyang city were at a moderately high level. The factors influencing nurses’ knowledge level of hospice care included gender, department and previous education of hospice care.Factors influencing nurses’ hospice care behavior level include previous experience in caring for seriously ill patients at home, and previous education in hospice care.It is suggested that nursing educators and nursing managers should strengthen the standardized and systematic hospice care education and training for clinical nurses and nursing students, and formulate relevant management policies and systems to promote the development of hospice care.
