Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of probiotics and synbiotics in the treatment of adult and childhood non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).Methods: Randomized controlled trials on the efficacy of probiotics and synbiotics in the treatment of adult and childhood NAFLD published without year restrictions were searched in multiple databases, including Pub Med,Wed of Science,EMBase,The Cochrane Library,Database for Chinese Technical Periodical(VIP),Chinese Journal Full-Text Database(CNKI),and Wanfang Digital Journal Full-text Database.Article identification and data extraction were carried out by two reviewers based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria.Stata12.0 software was used for the meta-analysis.Results: Fifteen randomized controlled trials with a total of 857 cases of NAFLD were included.Meta-analysis showed that the probiotics and synbiotics were associated with a significant reduction in the following parameters, namely ALT for adults(WMD=-12.63U/L,95%CI:-16.44~-8.81,P=0.000),ALT for childhood(WMD=-8.81U/L,95% CI:14.88~-2.74,P=0.004),AST for adults(WMD=-12.92U/L,95%CI:-15.90~-9.94,P=0.000),T-chol for adults(WMD=-0.20mmol/L,95%CI:-0.39~-0.01,P=0.044),LDL for adults(WMD=-0.27mmol/L,95%CI:-0.46~-0.08,P=0.005),TNF-a for adults(WMD=-0.69pg/ml,95%CI:-1.19~-0.20,P=0.006).Conclusions: The probiotics and synbiotics can improve the index of liverenzymes, lipidmetabolism, and cytokines in patients with NAFLD,and it may be beneficial for the treatment of NAFLD.
