Suicide is the world's important public health problem.Suicidal ideation is the start stage of the suicidal behavior,is the float factor of the suicide attempt,research on the suicide ideation plays an important role in probing the characteristics of suicide,as well as suicide prevention.Suicide problem of graduate student group is more and more prominent,but attention is relatively less,so the study of graduate students‘suicide ideation is also very necessary.The factors which effect suicidal ideation is various,cognition and judgment of your overall ability and the behavioral responses when coping with stress scenarios can affect individual suicidal ideation,this study attempts to explore the relationship between graduate students' suicidal ideation,general self-efficacy and coping styles.358 graduate students from 2 universities in Wuhan were investigated in this study,by Self-rating Idea of Suicide Scale,Coping Style Questionnaire and General Self-Efficacy Scale.By using independent sample t test,correlation analysis and regression analysis,and other statistical method,we investigated the relationship between graduate students' general self-efficacy,coping style and suicide ideation.The main conclusions were as follows:1.14 people among the 358 studied graduate students have suicidal ideation,the incidence of suicide ideation was 3.91%,far lower than the military and medical college students,as well as high school and undergraduate students,but a little higher than the students from scientific research institutes.The suicidal ideation of one-child students' was significant lower than the oppoite ones.The students from rural and urban families ware dramaticly higher than the towns.The second year students had a remarkable high score than the other two grades.And students from better university ware striking higher than the opposites.2.The general self-efficacy of graduate students ware above the average level,and the significant differences only exited in grades and whether one-child or not.Students from one-child family had much higher scores.Stuednts from town ware higher than the ones from rural areas,but lower than the urban students.3.Graduate students were more likely to use positive coping style,such as problem solving and help seeking,and then other negative coping styles.Boys used more problem solving,self-blame and escape ways than girls,while girls used more help seeking coping style.Third-year graduates used more coping style than the first-year ones such as fantasy,retreat,rationalization,problem solving.Single-child students used more helping seeking than non-only child students.Rural and urban students used more self-blame coping styles than students from town.As well as the ones whose major is liberal arts to the ones of science.4.General self-efficacy and each factor of coping styles were significantly associated with suicide ideation,and regression analysis showed that the general self-efficacy had a significant negative effect on suicidal ideation;coping styles of problem solving and help seeking had a significant negative effect on suicidal ideation,self-blame and fantasy were significantly positive predicters of suicidal ideation.5.Problem solving,self-blame and help seeking play significant part of the intermediary roles between general self-efficacy and suicidal ideation.General self-efficacy can positively predict problem solving and help seeking behaviors,and negative predictions on self-blame behavior,thus the overall negative predicting the strength of suicidal ideation.
