Research On Correspondence Between Zhang Xueliang In The Years Of Imprisonment And Soong Mei-ling

Zhang Xueliang was imprisoned since Xi'an Incident.He had communicated with Soong Mei-ling with a lot of correspondence letters which are kept in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library at Columbia University in New York.Referring to correspondence file clues of the university,and accessing to relevant dictation data,original letters and historical archives,this article is to show the mentality of Zhang Xueliang after jailed,friendship between Zhang Xueliang and Soong Mei-ling,and enmity between Zhang Xueliang and Jiang Kai-shek.Meanwhile,Soong Mei-ling sent by letters expressing her apologies and give the greatest degree of care after Zhang's jailed in order to appease Zhang;Zhang Xueliang himself replied through letters expressing his desire and hope to regain freedom.In addition,through the correspondence between Zhang Xueliang and Soong Mei-ling,it certainly reflects Jiang Kai-shek 's wish and attitude to strengthen the control of Zhang Xueliang.
