A Report On The Translation Of The Fine Arts

Fran?ois Pierre Guillaume Guizot,a dominant symbol in French politics prior to the Revolution of 1848,is a historian,orator and statesmen.Among his books,there is a unique one,the Fine Arts,discussing the nature and relations of arts.Though less conspicuous than his other politics books,it will have some repercussions for art history and civilization studies.Introducing this book to Chinese readers is one of the reasons why the translator translated this book.Another reason for translating this book is that the translator can apply translation theories and skills into actual translation activities.Based on the translation and the reflections of the whole process,the translator produced this translation report which focused on the problems he encountered in translation and listed several methods he used to solve the problems.This translation report is divided into five parts:In introduction,the translator introduced the background information of the writer and his book as well as the significance of translation this book.Chapter One is task description.In this part,the goals of the translation and the arrangement made to carry out this translation task were listed in this chapter.Chapter Two is process description.This chapter described the process of translating this book.The whole process was divided into three phases: pre-translation,execution and finalization.The focuses of each phase were identified and the result of each stage was illustrated.Chapter Three is case analysis of translation.To demonstrate the reflection of the translation process,this sectionmainly analyzed two subjects: the translation of terminology and the translation strategy for translating art history books.In conclusion,the final part of this report,reflected on the whole translation projectand summarized the lessons learned through this process.
