Research On Chen Kangbo And The Political Situation Of The Southern Song Dynasty

Chen Kangbo was an important figure in the political arena of the early Southern Song Dynasty.He was an official through four dynasties and they were Huizong,Qinzong,Gaozong,Xiaozong.During his 40 s years’ official career,Chen Kangbo served as a Privy Council Chief Executive,Deputy Prime Minister,vice chancellor,chancellor and so on.He became the Jinshi in 1121 s,then stepped into official career.In the early years,Chen Kangbo served as the leader of Changzhou in Pingjiangfu,the teacher of official school,the officer of the institutions which was responsible for compiled materials,and the officer to recorded some events etc.The government didn’t put Chan Kangbo in an important position,but he always work scrupulously to fulfill his duties,he suggested Gaozong to treat people more kindness,pay more attention to the law and monitoring.Chan Kangbo served as an envoy to Jin and obeyed the order of the Gaozong,then he served as envoy to received Jin.The attitude of Chan Kangbo was neither humble nor pushy when he communicated with the Jin.Because Chen Kangbo refused to curry favor with the Jin,Qinhui and his followers always attacked him,Chen Kangbo was demoted local official for ten years.After the death of QinHui,GaoZong put Chen Kangbo into an important position by virtue of his excellent political achievements and public praise,finally,he became chancellor.ChenKangbo took part in a series of eventful political events like resisting the invasion of Wan Yanliang,assisting Xiaozong to be the emperor,signing the LongXing protocol and so on.He had the great influence to the political situation in the early Southern Song Dynasty.Chen Kangbo was one of the representatives who supported war against Jin,and he advocated to take tough measures to Jin.When Wan Yanliang attacked the south,Chen Kangbo encouraged Gaozong to the battlefront of the war,and then to follow up the success by attacking the enemy in order to restore the native land.When the Northern Expedition of Fuli was failed in the dynasty of Xiaozong,Chen Kangbo changed his prior perspective into supporting peace and advocated the opinion of holding the present territory at first and then restoring the native land.Cheng Kangbo proposed the perspective of self-goverment which promoted the agreement of Longxing protocol.The changing attitude of Cheng Kangbo to the peace or war between Song and Jin connected closely with the politicalsituation of that time.The research to Chen Kangbo has great significance on the understanding to the political situation in the early Southern Song as well as the relationship between Song and Jin.Moreover,this thesis investigated the family background and literature talent of Chen Kangbo.
