Humphrey's Reconstruction And Solution To "The Hard Problem" Of Consciousness Based On Biological Evolutionism

The problem of consciousness is an unfading philosophical problem.During the last decades,both philosophers and scientist try to account for the nature and origin of consciousness.The achievements of the theories of consciousness by science of consciousness and philosophy of mind are very gigantic.Facing to "the hard problem" of consciousness issued by philosopher David Chalmers,however,none of the given approaches could provide satisfied answers.Such context has made many researchers rethink profoundly even meta-thought,namely whether the "problem" itself has problem?Indeed,in order to do some research meaningfully,we have to provide good and valuable problems,so does the research on consciousness.British theoretical psychologist Nicholas Humphrey sharply realizes that the reason why such research has trapped into the dangerous is that "the problem" itself is a problem.The so-called hard problem is nothing but a bad question issued by people who based on the first perspective.In virtue of the argument of evolution of consciousness,he points out that consciousness is a specific brain state represented by the "inner eyes" in our brain as the illusive art work.Such specific brain state is rooted by an old body response in the creature.The primitive overt active body response has located in the brain and formed the extraordinary recursive loop as the evolution.The reason why natural selection develops such illusive phenomenal conscious art work is that it could make us treasure ourselves better and enlarge our sense of selves since "I feel,therefore I am".Humphrey's approach provides new perspective for us to solve the "hard problem",however it has some defects too.This study follows the clue of the "hard problem" of consciousness,explicates that Nicholas Humphrey's theory of consciousness provides new answer to the problem,and evaluates the whole process.The first part of essay introduces the problem and circumstance of the research.The second part characterizes Humphrey's analyze on the problem itself.The third part emphasizes that in order to construct the theory of consciousness,Humphrey provides all kinds of basements of the theory including psychological basement,the relationship between mind and body and the concept of consciousness.The forth part centrally discusses that Humphrey gives answers to the nature of consciousness based on the argument of the evolution of consciousness.The last part evaluates the theory from two sides.
