The 'hard problem' of consciousness, in recent years, comes out as one of the most widely discussed and most violently argued in the philosophy field in the west. It is having been neglected by the people engaged in Marxist philosophy hi our country. In order to change the laggard status, we must have a global understanding and research for the relative research results of the west, and then have a summery for their experience and lessons, based on which a more systematic and dialectic method is created to make a more deeply investigation for the essence of the consciousness and then foresee the developing direction of Marxist consciousness hi our country. Following the above logicality, this dissertation combines the current research situation of Marxist consciousness hi our country and makes an introduction and summery for the 'hard problem' researches of consciousness by various science means including philosophy. The author focuses on the analysis of the controversies on the existence, function and explaining principle of the 'hard problem' made by different research groups of the west. A detailed investigation is also completed for the defeat and validity of reduction theory and non-reduction one hi explaining the 'hard problem' of consciousness with a reasonable result that the 'hard problem' is not satisfactorily solved whether from the point of philosophy or from that of natural science. Under violent controversy, the argument itself and its extension will be upgrading.The author, in this dissertation, holds the opinion that consciousness problem is one of the most important in the research field of mind philosophy and every further understanding for it means a great breakthrough. The research of 'hard problem' and its relative fields has significance of importance for the development of Marxist consciousness theory.
